Knitting PatternsKnitting patterns are used for making an endless variety of items, from baby blankets to bulky sweaters…from lacy shawls to colorful dishcloths…and from cosy hats to stuffed toys for your pet. Looking for great new knitting patterns? There are knitting patterns for almost anything you can imagine and if you can’t find what you’re looking for, you can always custom-design your own. What versatility!
They can be one of two types. A chart or graph type allows you to follow the pattern visually and is often used when more than one color of yarn is used within the same row of the pattern, such as for Fair Isle knits. They are written in a square grid, with each square representing one stitch and containing a symbol depicting the type of stitch to be made. Other knitting patterns are made up of written instructions for following the stitch pattern line-by-line. These types of patterns use a lot of abbreviations which can confuse a beginner, but following the instructions correctly is just a matter of understanding the language of knitters. A glossary of terms can be extremely helpful.
The good ones will include a photo of the finished item, a list of all the materials needed, information on the correct guage, a list of the abbreviations used, and specific instructions for creating the stitch pattern, if necessary. You’ll want to make sure you eliminate any surprises by reading the pattern thoroughly before you begin your project.
Knitting isn’t only for the cold weather though. There are projects for warm-weather fashions, soft toys for children or pets, great wardrobe accessories and even ideas for home décor too. The hardest part of the whole thing might just be deciding on only one project from the endless possibilities that are out there! Complete your look with stylish Sterling Silver Pendants & Necklaces
